Box squats have really helped me get correct depth - I was going too deep before!! Getting the 'feel' right now. Doing lots of paused deadlifts too.

Training for comp going well - targets being re-visited - upwards - after every session :)

Box squats? Where you have a foot on each box and weight dangles down the middle? I have just been reading up on paused deadlifts.... Upwards is good Duracell!

Squats today. First time with weighted squats 2 weeks ago and I just managed to do 3 X 10 reps with bar only. Today I tried with some weight (not much) managed 2.5kg each side 8 X 3 then 5kg each side for 3 X 3 then a 1 rep max (I totally freaked out actually) with a 40kg lift

Much more work needed here on my confidence as much as anything!

Brig - box squats are where you back squat as normal until your bottom hits an appropriately placed box / pile of weights. This should mean you get to the right depth and rely less on momentum, but use leg strength, to get you back up.

The confidence will come; it is after all a very alien feeling for most of us.

I am facing similar on push press where my coach just shouted at me to move the bar "bang, bang, bang" rather than letting me do it in my own time, where I was over-thinking everything and letting it prey on my mind.

Failed my deadlifting "gold goal" for this year on Monday but given it's only May I didn't beat myself too much about it ;) Another try in 2 weeks and it will not elude me.

box squats are the work of the devil! my PT makes me do them sometimes and they're tough :-o

Thanks Duracell. I will try them next Tuesday. I overthink EVERYTHING!!!! It is my downfall! Push press is getting a bit easier for me now but I am puny so only do small weights. Gold goal? Do tell more!
