Welcome Nick Cook Nick Cook if he comes over here from his Paddleboard exclusive thread fetcheveryone.com/forum/paddleboarding-62794 !

Top tip, the board strap (to stop it floating away if you fall in) is easiest round ankle rather than waist, I think? :-) G

Our coaches were advising waist strap rather than ankle for safety reasons. SCA have recently changed advise for white water though (I think no tether at all)

Oh, I didn't know that HP. It just looked funny in NC's pic. And I assumed it was like surf boards, which are an ankle strap, iirc? What is the safety issue with having it on the ankle? (Not that I go anywhere even remotely dangerous!) :-) G

Just seen the other thread about paddle boarding so thought I’d jump in here. Any recommendations for budget-friendly inflatable SUPs? Need to be able to take the wear and tear of dogs nails as well.

With needing two of them, we haven’t got round to getting them yet but I’ve been desperate to get some.

200 quid for my 10ft Itwit (?) from Decathlon, but extra for the pump. Or all in 200 from Lidl (if you can find it in centre aisle!) the Mistral 10ft 6" including double paddle conversion and seat to use as sit on kayak, and includes pump. Both include back pack and paddle of course.

I'd recommend gloves too, after several blisters and a load o blood! :-) G

I think waist straps with quick release are considered safer option. If you’re attached at ankle with Velcro you could in theory get tangled and find it hard to untether yourself.

Hi HappyG(rrr),

I'm here now! 😊

The couples we went out with had the waist belts, said people had drowned trying to undo the ankle strap whilst upside down under the water!

Mandy, of the 10ft 6 Mistral at £200 + £100? If so, bargain. I got the Mistral I think because you pointed me at the deal! I hardly ever use the Decathlon one now, unless it's a group coming out. :-) G
