Sharkie
Here's the message my central London club posted yesterday:

With extreme temperatures forecast for Tuesday, we’ve taken a decision to postpone the Grand Prix 5k race in Battersea Park for one week, to Tuesday, 26 July. My thanks to Wandsworth Council for facilitating this. I’ll write with further race information in a few days’ time.

They've also cancelled track training tomorrow night.

Oh - glad I read this Sharkie - I wasn't aware of that.

I'll just stick an easy run. Apparently hot running is quick hack to raise vo2max (via more blood plasma), so I'll see if that's true and I can break a plateau at a cooler 5K.

We have cancelled our Monday and Tuesday runs. Most of our leaders were worried about being able to run in the heat never mind lead at our usual paces so we’ve cancelled and offered guidance (common sense advice) for those that do choose to run away from the club

Red warning means potential danger to life. As someone said if it were snow or a storm then I doubt any club would go ahead with an organised event. If someone were to come to harm then the organisers could be on very dodgy ground insurance wise.

Call me a snowflake, but as I've just been out all afternoon making sure that no one's managed to set fire to the fell, and am likely to be doing so again tomorrow (and the next day) I feel justified in holding that particular view...

We're not at the red warning yet, admittedly, but I was surprised to see the Blackpool 10k going on when we got to the seafront around midday (about 28C at the time but humid too)...

Fingers crossed, FR - we're just under Marsden Moor and over the hill from the fire at Dovestones so I don't envy you having to monitor it all...

It's very quiet and strangely peaceful. Just very very hot. Plus were doing it on foot as we daren't take a vehicle and it's too hot for horses..

We're just driving over the top on the M62 and swathes of the moor are almost cornfield yellow. I've never seen it looking this parched before.

About This Thread

We're debating over whether it's right to have our usual club run on tues due to the extreme temperatures forecast.

Or to at least mitigate to a woodland route or perhaps go later.

Because obviously we have a duty of care to the runners who attend.

Interested to hear what other clubs are doing please
