B.B.
Well how I intend on incorporating this stuff into my marathon training:

6 days a week
1 Long run (10-20m) at 70-75%
1 tempo run (85% for 4-5m)
1 intervals / hill intervals (90% for the intervals)
3 recovery runs (6m at 65-70%)

Programme loosely based on the following
Monday: Easy
Tuesday: Hard
Wednesday: Easy
Thursday: Hard
Friday: Easy/Day off
Saturday: Easy/Day off
Sunday Long

Sounds like a plan to me BB. Much like the kinda plan I will put into action from Feb 1st :-)

I may end up doing loads of different intervals instead of tempo runs mind you...

According to Parker... he doesn't care what you do on your hard days!

I love doing intervals at the track, Ian, and can't get down there often enough due to work. So I have to do one of my runs to/from work (6m) as 1m warmup, 4m tempo, 1m warmdown.

Don't really like doing intervals on a normal run

BB,
I like your programme! Mine's fairly similar, though, at the moment, I only really do one "hard" session a week (planned marathon not till October) - remainder of training is @ <75% (majority < 70%max WHR).
Re intervals, no access to a track so go to prom and do an interval session using the Garmin inverals function (now I've sussed it, I think!)

Looks a lot like my plan BB:

Mon - easy
Tues - hard (intervals?)
Wed - easy
Thurs - hard (tempo?)
Fri - easy
Sat easy/rest
Sun - hard (long or race)

Nice one :-) I think mine will vary from 30 to maybe 60 mpw. Mostly 40-45 though

I pretty much follow that same principle - although occasionally I have to move sessions around to fit in with Everything Else!

Everything you need to know about training with a heart rate monitor. Remember the motto "I can maintain a fast pace over the race distance because I am an Endurance God". Mind the trap door....

Gobi lurks here, but for his advice you must first speak his name. Ask and you shall receive.

A quote:

"The area between the top of the aerobic threshold and anaerobic threshold is somewhat of a no mans land of fitness. It is a mix of aerobic and anaerobic states. For the amount of effort the athlete puts forth, not a whole lot of fitness is produced. It does not train the aerobic or anaerobic energy system to a high degree. This area does have its place in training; it is just not in base season. Unfortunately this area is where I find a lot of athletes spending the majority of their seasons, which retards aerobic development. The athletes heart rate shoots up to this zone with little power or speed being produced when it gets there." Matt Russ, US International Coach
