Fat Dave
There is only one English football manager with a proven track record of winning trophies, and she's just accepted a new job in the US.

This is very true, FD.

On that note could we persuade Sarina to take a sideways move? ;-)

As has been pointed out, somebody (probably more than one person) thought Sam Allardyce a better bet than Southgate, the mind boggles at what we might get next.

One approach would be to promote from the U21's, on an on-going basis for continuity and longevity etc

I think managing a national football team requires different set of strengths and skills to club football and they may not be transferable.

Anybody (@paulcook , i'm looking at you) got any stats on managers who have excelled in club football as well as international management?

I'm struggling to even find the last English manager to win the Championship. Sean Dyche I think nearly 10 years ago?

?

First manager who popped into my head - Mancini - and he's obviously manager in England. Can we afford to pay off his contract with Saudi?!

The man himself says "no". Unsurprising.

Well it's moot as to whether we want him to stay or go now because he's resigned.

I wouldn't like Carsley, was clueless as Birmingham caretaker manager.

Really not enough quality in the English options, has to be an overseas choice. Potter's ballet watching shenanigans (I have nothing against him or his approach) will not endear him to a wider populace.

Once again, Southgate has done the right thing and done it with dignity. I only hope the next appointee can match him and provide a greater tactical fluidity.

Here’s your chance to be wise before the event.

Instead of England winning / losing in a glorious semi final defeat and afterwards everyone saying, “Told you he was the right man for the job”, or being embarrassingly knocked out of the group stage / losing timidly in the QF and afterwards everyone saying, “Told you he wasn't the right man for the job”, here’s your chance to be wise before the event and put on record whether you think Gareth Southgate is the right manager for...
