I wonder what sort of monstrosity they are going to create this time! It used to be a great descent before they started fixing it.

NE, tend to agree which is why I've never done it - too much boring stuff to connect them up - but needed some reasonably local miles and ascent for for the virtual L100 so it seemed an easy option. No big loss missing it.

We did that route just the other day. If you include Horses Head you can make it into a cracking 4 Trigs challenge.

I snuck off to Skye just before the weekend for a couple of nights camping up in Coire Lagan, so not actually fell running since I've descended the An Stac screes in Walshes before and still remember how much the falling stones/rocks/boulders hurt my ankles, so wore big boots this time. The weather window promised by the Met Office was spot on and made it all worth it.                     |

Had planned for that Gus but it was so, so wet that I went for the hard option of dropping down to the tent in the Coire and heading all the way back up the An Stac screes (an hour to go back up, ten minutes ride down afterwards). On the plus side, I got to enjoy the full length of the Sgurr Mhic Choinnich ridge direct. ff - I headed up just after 9pm in truly horrible conditions, complete spate, with the loch Lagan outflow utterly uncrossable. Had to be careful to cross the raging burn higher up to be safe - everything was saturated with flat ground under an inch or two of puddles. Started pitching the tent at 10:30pm after a rapid hunt for a good camping spot in the gloom, which had to be quite rocky to avoid drowning. Spent the morning wandering in the Coire and picking up all litter to carry out and drying kit out. Really good to have enforced down-time in the hills, reading and wandering... headed up into the clag mid-afternoon as conditions just got better and better, left some skin on the ridge, scrambled then slid back down to the tent, beer, dip in the loch, dinner, whisky, sleep, then back at the car at 10am the next morning. Streams now back to being more of a trickle - an astonishing difference. Sometimes it's nice to go against the flow! |
