Swallows not made it back to their usual spot here, and no cuckoo yet either. Blackcap and lots of chiffs this morning though

No willow warblers or swallows on my ride, alas. Oodles of loud, confident blackcaps, though, and the woods were all a-chiff.

I've also seen reports of swallow at Hartlepool, and 55 sand martins in County Durham.

2 egrets chasing away a barnacle goose. Curlews, seen and heard. Cuckoo! Heard, not seen. Barnacle geese grazing, about 25 of them. Song thrushes, mistle thrush and blackbirds. Bluetits nest building in a hole in the carport at my sister's.
