Very obliging M & F Golden Plover in their full spring finery yesterday on a walk up to Hoof Stones. Nobody had told them they were meant to be shy birds. And a pair of stonechat with their little one.

Our regular pair of herring gulls have their first chicks hatched I think.
How do I know, first attack and first blood of the year to the gulls, nice scar on top of my head.

spotted woodie on the green just now - I've heard them a little way away, but that's the first that's been so close to home

Male GSW back this morning with two juveniles in tow. They really seem to like the suet block. One of the juveniles (the one that came yesterday?) is also starting to appear solo and feed itself. Fingers crossed they continue to thrive.

Parakeets around this morning - flew over the house and then across the park on the dog walk.

I wonder how long before the Parakeets get here? They're seen in Derby (just under 20 miles away) but I've never spotted any sightings in Derbyshire north of there. 22 years ago when I left London they didn't really exist even there but over the next 5-10 years became quite a regular sighting when I was working down there. Since then they seem to have spread steadily north at quite a rate.
