Just saw a white tailed crow in the garden - and when it flew away, the underside of it's wings were white. Completely black from the front. Are these common? Never seen one before? (and is it just a blotchy crow, or something special?)

I think it's quite common. Google 'leucistic crow' for examples.

On the apple tree in my front garden we have left a number of apples. There's male blackbirds today, one very bold. I'm hoping for a few waxwings this year, last year it was a solitary one

There’s a strong network of blogging birders in both the greater Bradford area and in Calderdale. Sadly I’ve see no reports of waxwing locally (yet)

From https://twitter.com/waxwingsuk, it seems like all the sightings are north east Scotland at present.

I had a little walk on Stanpit marsh this afternoon and saw a couple of marsh harriers soaring around.

Chiffchaff this morning while out on my run. On a bitterly cold morning too!

First garden siskin of the year just now, a female on the sunflower hearts. I was a bit surprised as they don't normally turn up until a little later in the winter, when alder seeds etc are getting scarcer. Maybe they're learning, like goldfinches have learned, that gardens are the places to be these days.
