Interesting DT, in the gloom that is passing for daylight here this morning I heard the distincive croaking grunt of a Woodcock, a call I always thought was associated with roding and spring!

I've seen a few local reports of waxwing... but not seen a waxwing yet.

Yes, DT, I took a look at that yesterday - we're heading to Kelling. Nice area for a walk anyway, and may pick up snow buntings even if no waxies.

Spotted a kingfisher along the river where we walk the dog (and I run daily) yesterday. Thought I saw two a couple of months ago on a run but only the out the corner of my eye. This one flew past and landed 10yards away from us. First time I’ve definitely seen one there

Sadly no waxwings today. None spotted by anyone there today by the time we left (3pm), which was a little disappointing. Still, a lovely walk in bright, clear autumn sunshine, with good views of 7 snow buntings, a beautifully sunlit stonechat and a splendid flock of curlews, and some nice tea and cake. A good day out.
