Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Condolences, beebop, so sorry for your loss.

That’s tough, XB. There are problems in that department with my mother from time to time - the worst I’ve had to deal with personally has been washing out sofa cushions but I’ve been lucky with my timing being there.

Sorry for your loss Beebop

I got 4 death certificates for my dad. Went to his bank and they took copies. Dad had 4 different private small pension. That why I got 4.

We got 5 but didn't need that many. Most people took copies. Might be different in Covid times

Sorry for your loss, Beebop.

Rather annoyingly, mum is still asleep. There's not been a peep* out of her since 2230. I've been sitting here, mostly awake, waiting to be called into action.

*I have checked regularly to see if she's still breathing.

So sorry for your loss Beebop.

I’ve been staying with my mum for the last two weeks since she had a fall (thankfully no broken bones this time) and it’s a real shock to see how much worse she is since early December when I last visited.
She also had a minor toilet accident just before bed a couple of nights ago which then triggered a few moments of sadness and a “I don’t want to be like this” comment. Although the moment soon passed it then led to a sleepless night for me thinking about possible solutions. Thankfully mum has bounced back a bit since so things have improved.
Life is a bitch and old age doubly so...

Hard to think about, never mind to deal with. :-(

All this makes me doubly glad for my sister. She lives with and looks after my Mum all the time..... Despite Carers coming in, she does get all the "night calls".

It’s good that she’s got you, Dave. I’m taking comfort from the fact that, by good fortune, all three of us can do our share of the caring with the help of the professionals.

My sisters both work but are working from home and can be super flexible with clocking their hours.

I’m back on duty this evening; I’m booked into a Premier Inn for a couple of nights to cut out the 150 mile round trip. It also means I get to run somewhere different and flat😀

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
