Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,
Ian Williams aka Fetch

Dad's been looking at an online app' or web page' satellite pic of the local area ~ he's planning some short walks and wanted to know if there are any 'little alleys' he could use to alter the route's length.

He got in a right snot with us when he mentioned wanting to go and look at the big concrete building on the green ... we know that there's nothing like that in the area he was talking about, so we had a look at the pic. His eyes were playing tricks on him, the roofed building he could 'see' is actually an open air, chain link fenced basket ball court and 5/6 a side football pitch. He just would not have it that he was misinterpreting what he was seeing! Oh the joy of that conversation!

My pancreas is being quite vocal at the mo, last night was lots of fun!

Socially distanced hugs to all.

Hi All. Feel for those having difficulties to cope with at present. Stay strong, people!

Some cheering news - my COVID-struck Mum is not doing too badly at all. Her temperature is down and she hasn't coughed in the last couple of days. She's lost weight and is very frail as she hasn't been eating much but her main problem now is that she's got very depressed through being stuck in her room on her own for such a long time. She likes a bit of life going on around her.

Happily, her quarantine finishes today, so the staff can now leave her door open and they're going to bring her to sit in with them in their room on her landing for a few hours today. Quarantine for the whole house finishes on Thursday, so hopefully she'll be able to go downstairs to the main rooms then.

We're not completely out of the woods yet, I know things could still easily go awry, but I feel much more relaxed than I have for the last two weeks. Very proud of my Mum for being such a tough old bird!

That lack of social interaction in care homes must have had a huge negative impact on quality of life for so many.

I’m glad your Mum seems to be on the up, JK.

Also: After someone dies, if their home insurance was only in their name, sadly the cover becomes void. But if the policy was in joint names, it will still cover the surviving policyholder (though the names on the policy will need to be updated).

Pension Credit. The rules are a bit complex but if your elderly relative has some sort of disability (in this case dementia/Alzheimer's) and go into a home, they may be able to claim pension credit. So if carers allowance stops, it seems pension credit can start. It can also be backdated.
