Hi ,
It looks like you're using an ad blocker.

The revenue generated from the adverts on the site is a critical part of our funding - and it's because of these ads that I can offer the site for free. But using the site for free AND blocking the ads doesn't feel like a great thing to do, which is why this box is so large and inconvenient. Some sites will completely block your access, but I'm not doing that - I'm appealing to your good nature instead. Did you know that you can allow ads for specific sites, whilst still blocking them on others?

Thanks,

Essex have 12 overs to get the final 3 wickets - that would put them on 2 wins from 2 games and perhaps everyone else on 0 wins.

Surrey need 168 from 15 overs, which doesn't seem impossible.

In the second division, Gloucs need 144 off 10 overs against Yorkshire, with.4 wickets remaining, so that could go either way.

The pitch died at tea. I left at the last rain break. Nobody in my area seemed to hold out much hope of getting the last three wickets.

Eight overs to go I think? Start the car.

Scotland played Kent in 1987. I took a half day to go and watch the game. When I arrived underwood was just wrapping up his eight wicket haul.

Looks like Yorkshire clawed a draw from the grasp of victory.

`Anyone read the thing about Underwood in today's Times? Lovely picture with Alan Knott and Bob Woolmer - except they got the names the wrong way round in the caption. *not* an easy mistake to make.

Sad about Derek Underwood, I too can remember him from TV. 297 test wickets was a lot of wickets in those days.

I always associate Derek Underwood with piles of sawdust. Long run up and more of a medium pacer than a spinner?

Rumour has it that he was pretty quick (compared to traditional spinners). I know a couple of players who faced him and they were (nastily) surprised by the pace.

From his obit in the Times : Underwood was unapologetic about his unique style of bowling. “I have tried bowling slower. Tried tossing the ball up in the air more. Switched from bowling round the wicket to over and back again. Attempted to bowl with the umpire standing back. Many people, even England selectors, feel I should change. But none of these has been me.”

And he did start out as a fast bowler.

Ref the picture. I think it was because Boycott was laughing & smiling and happy. After the shock of that, no wonder they fell apart. ;-)
