It might only be day 4 of the season, but it's never too early to start the "Moores out" chants.

Little Chef and Porter! With Snater, Harmer, ‘tall Paul’ also bowling and with some quality in the 2nd Team I have to be hopeful again.

Hmm. Have a slightly jaundiced view of professionals parachuting into club teams. It distorts local leagues. Often it's some local businessman's vanity project and players are being paid silly money (in a village club context). But maybe that's just because we're a club with no money and a falling down clubhouse that a few years ago were in the county prem division but are now div 7 🤣 |

Many of my strongest memories of club cricket we when we played against professionals, and being complemented by one on my bowling age 18 was a real highlight. This was Glasgow League Div 2, not exactly elite.

Lancashire League is obviously an extreme example of this - players to have featured in the last 50 years include Allan Border, Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Allan Donald, Jason Gillespie, Viv Richards, Kapil Dev, Clive Lloyd, Michael Holding, Andy Roberts, Dennis Lillee, Chris Cairns and of course you famously had people like Learie Constantine back in the 1930s. Not forgetting a 17 year old Jimmy Anderson.

I bowled a peach of an over or two in the drizzle against George Reifer some time in the 1980s. Green wet wicket, he could barely lay an edge on me. At least that's how I'm choosing to remember it ![]() |
