A world of difference between that and an Ashes on likely unhelpful pitches. SKW seemed to muddle through |

I hope they don't tell Ahmed he'll be fine because SKW managed 🤣

Moeen said in 2021 It's been a good journey,” said Moeen. “But during the India series I felt like I was done, to be honest. I felt good, the atmosphere felt good, the dressing room etcetera, but cricketing-wise I found it a struggle to get in the zone bowling and batting and in the field. And the more I tried, I just couldn't do it.27 Sept 2021 |

Things change over time. He wouldn't be considering it if it wasn't the team wasn't under new management. In the cricinfo article, he actually talks about how stopping test cricket had a negative effect on his limited overs bowling. |

There's a big difference between considering yourself as a permanent member of the team with all that that entails, vs agreeing to play a one-off summer series due to injuries. Someone who's retired from the former might well be tempted for the latter, especially a home ashes series.

Ahmed has been hit and miss for Leics this season. I think he needs more time to develop consistency before throwing him into high pressure tests on pitches that might not be too helpful and his job is to hold down an end.

Agreed jdawayinamanger, I think what Moeen needs to ask himself is what happens when things get tough. If he's ok with his answer to that question then. ThorntonRunner kind of what I'm thinking. Let him learn to walk before he starts running. It's not like there's going to be a personal negative for him if he doesn't play in this Ashes. |

Liam Dawson might be an option - been in various England squads over the years, gets plenty of overs in the county championship and similar ability to hold down an end that Leach has. I'd go for Rehan Ahmed though.

Dawson also left arm orthodox.
