57.5 Degrees of Pain
That new Ashes XI in full

Cook, Sir A (spin bowling all rounder)
Boycott, G (could still whip the current top order with a stick of rhubarb)
Vaughn, M (so we don't have to listen to him)
Root, J (no one else is allowed the no. 4 spot now)
Gatting, M (an anchor for the innings, or possibly just a useful anchor) +
Jardine, D (ghost of, because the Aussies don't like it up 'em) *
Moeen Ali (he has compromising pictures of the selection committee... he must have)
Pringle, D (just because)
Larwood, H (see Jardine, D)
Tufnell, P (see Vaughn, M)
Other, AN (random fast bowler picked from the walking wounded)

12th Man: Leach, J

* Captain
+ Wicketkeeper (with the specialist keeper deemed obsolete, go for the widest barrier)

If Pringle was to bowl Pies, Gatting would catch them and eat them

In fact if Pringle was plural Gatt would eat him as well.

Agree.

If you want to see how bad England could be, check out the batting for the 46 all out when Curtley went on the rampage.... Salisbury at 7!!! Stewie got 18 of the 46.

Was it the Duckworth-Lewis Method who said of Gatt (referring to the Ball Of The Century (TM)) that "if it had been a cheese roll, it would never have got past me"?

Oscar - was that the line-up with Tufnell, Giddins and Mulally as 9, 10, Jack?

An Ashes XI without Lord Sir Ian Terence is like a pencil without lead…..pointless.
