OS, the counties want T20 because that's what's keeping most of them afloat.
They could have relaunched the Blast, tinkered with the format and given the higher profile to the women's game through that format.
Didn't need this bollocks.
Re: Kids. 2003. T20 launch. Loads of kids. No difference - it's keeping them engaged and keeping it going that's hard.
Giving the counties more support in engaging young supporters would be the way, but the ECB isn't interested in that. They don't want to give money and power to the counties. And to get rid of some of them.

I enjoyed that.
Far more than seeing Boycotts bat all day for 35*.

57.5 - the nail on the head.
Cricket on terrestrial telly (and in particular women's cricket). That's what matters.
The rest is just extras.

(extras being no balls of course - just setting it up for the free hit. Or am I wide of the mark? Come on give me a bye this time...)

That's true they could have gone down the route of adding a women's league alongside it they didn't and yep, cricket on the BBC, day one has worked out as far as I can see.

What I found slightly amusing, which would piss off the traditionalists no end. Was when the young girl was asked what she like best, she answered 'the fireworks!'

The thing is, in the early days of T20 there were hot tubs and gimmicks. No longer used or required.
Now, the women's game is well supported here in Taunton already, so doesn't't need this push either. As I said, my local team is now based 90 minutes drive away in another country. That won't engage anyone from Somerset, Devon, Cornwall and actually even the T20 is not well supported in Glamorgan's home games, so Cardiff looks an error.
I will go along to one to spend time with my lad, in the same way that I occasionally go out for the day to watch rugby. Passing interest, nice day out. (My feelings on rugby, not rugby per se).

watched some of it earlier, it is a bit garish, but not worse than any other 'corporate twatting the white orange oot the park' competition. and miles better than the abu dhabi T10.

I enjoyed it. Sky commentary better than BBC as sky kept to the cricket and didn't have random radio 1 etc presenters popping up every so often. However, I still don't see why they needed a new format when T20 works perfectly well as the short game format. I was pleasantly surprised at how few gimmicks there were

And in terms of attracting kids to play the game. Any kid that follows the hundred and then iƱ late August goes down to their local club is likely to be told "err, the season's winding down now - come back next March"
