Here's one.
I filtered a list of England's top test match century makers, to only include players who have featured in matches since 1980 (so Greig 72-77 doesn't feature, but Boycott 64-82 does). This list appears to include everyone who has six centuries or more.
Then I looked at who has the best "innings per 100" ratio. The top player on my list scored a hundred every 7.33 innings. The least prolific scored a hundred every 20.5 innings.
Your guesses for the most and least efficient, please

Bell is actually 7th out of the 28 on my list, with 9.32 innings per 100.

He did indeed Nico - most of them against Australia in 85-6 if I remember right He's top of the list, with a hundred every 7.33 innings, although he's also the person on the list with the fewest matches, at just 25.
Happy to accept further guesses for efficient ton-makers, or for your guesses for least efficient.

Nich -fair point, maybe drop Lyth and move everyone from 2 to 8 up one. We're pretty stacked at 'bowlers'who can bat a bit, though'.
Fetch - is Gooch near the bottom? He was great from '88 or so onwards but pretty mediocre for his first 12-13 years at Test level. Given his average, Gatt is probably near the bottom end (if he even got 6 centuries). Top end, after BC Broad: The Judge? Vaughan?
