Yes, I think it's time to say well done to Essex. Somerset's performance in the Hampshire game really wasn't the stuff of champions. That's the match that stands out, possibly because it was so near to the end of the season, but the cricinfo summary is fair.
It's looking like a sixth second place in 20 years: 2001, 2010, 2012, 2016, 2018, 2019!

Interesting to compare with our last Championship year which was built on stubbornly refusing to lose. I remember sitting in the near dark in front of the pavilion as an impossibly large number of us held our breath as the lads ground out a draw against Lancashire..
