IVA Richards might have been the more celebrated of the two West Indian greats gracing the County Ground, Taunton (none of this Cooper Associates nonsense), but it was Joel Garner who complemented him.

5 for 14 off 11...
132 not out means IVA scored something like 66% of the runs!

Some interesting things to note in there alongside their performances... 55 overs for the BHF to score less than 200... Vic Marks bowling 5 maidens... Nigel Popplewell (a batsman who I don't remember bowling any quicker than Ian Austin) bowling a full quota (he went on to be Justice Popplewell!).

I remember facing our schools top spinner once. The ball was hissing as it came down. Lord knows what a proper ripper from someone like Robert Croft was like...

Ah, schools cricket. In 1991, I was batting in the 1st XI nets and got pinned on the forehead by our second fastest bowler (I was a little slow on the hook). No helmets, no checks, nobody asked if I was alright... not even the coach, who hadn't seen it in fairness... which became apparent when he was telling me how poorly I had batted. I did feel the need to point out the proximity of poor form and lump on forehead! You'll find me in the 1992 Wisden under schools cricket if you look hard enough and long enough... as a (then) bowler

Botham 0 for 44. Colin Dredge. What a change that must have been visiting Taunton. Colin Dredge v Joel Garner.

Mind you. Pocock. Sylvester Clarke. Jackman and the longest run up in history. Thomas. That was a decent enough attack.
