The owner of my former employer’s distributor in Italy died of Covid on Dec 23 after 50 days in intensive care. He was old (88) but otherwise healthy. He was still playing golf to single figure handicap three years ago. 😪

17% of people with symptoms isn't 17% of people with the virus so the current positivity rate needs factoring into the calculation somehow.
And the ratio of symptoms to symptomless that is within that positivity - so that would reduce the extra number of infections per day back down to what? about the same as the known ones

I have a feeling my ultra will go the same way in June Blaydon Race on 9th of June has already declared it won’t go ahead.

The way things are looking this year is going to be like last, the news last night said pubs & restaurants are unlikely to open before May, our friend owns a bar in our town and he said earlier in the week he doubts he’ll be open before May. He’s a lad on his own took the brave decision to follow his dream, opened a fantastic gin bar & last year spent a fortune updating it to keep it safe I hope he can hang in there. I know in L1 he was making his staff pay up to 100%.

I think my May event may not happen too but I am clinging to hope for the July one
(march cycle even has been silent! June cycle even maybe ok?)

I think we may see fewer events in the future as events companies can't/ don't survive and they will take the fees people have paid with them. and impact on their suppliers too

who'd have thought 12 mths ago as Wuhan went into the worlds first lockdown that we would still be talking about this in present tense

I was hoping that running events would be able to restart soon but now I can’t see it happening for anything other than very small scale, low number runs or triathlon events where starts can be staggered. For me, I am doing the Virtual Ashby 20 in March. I am hoping to be able to do the Ashby 20 next year and maybe a marathon in the autumn of 2022. Not planning any other 2021 races yet.

I also think my two holidays postponed from last year (Easter break on Mallorca and Mediterranean cruise in August) will not go ahead. Shame but just the way it is.
