Not sure about that - the vet wasn't sure either. We will see how it goes. Hopefully her behaviour will change but if we can rule out the fleas, then it's one less thing on the list.

That makes sense, she does sound spooked Ion killercat has forgiven me for throwing her out the window this morning in a panic about her being sick. Next time I will do as mrS does and run her into the bathroom as it was not worth the heart stopping moment when I realised in trying to get the blind open the blanket off and her out I’d practically launched her

Maybe she is sensitive to flea bites and therefore doesn't want to come in, as she gets bitten when in her favourite places? Lasya has had fleas once or twice, maybe 3 times in the nearly 9 years I have had her. They tend to be concentrayed around "her" sofa and bed, i.e. my duvet 😱 where she spends most of her time when not on my lap.
The fleas tend to come from mice and voles she catches I think...

Re chickens: I have had them for something like 8 years now and never looked back! They are super pets plus: eggs!!! Make sure you fine tune fox proof coop and run though. I lost a fair few to the fox, even in broad daylight, so mine are in a HUGE run that is fox proof and only allowed out when I am also in the garden. My last lot before the current lot, 7 of them, were decapitatated by Mrs Fox in broad daylight one day in August 2 years ago. By lunchtime next day, I had collected 5 new ones. Lost one to old age the other day...
Make sure you get solid breeds, as some fancy ones only live a couple of years!

I don't envy you fleas! When I got Kata, I asked the vet about defleaing them and was delighted to learn that they are not a problem in Iceland and she got fleas, it would be a "notifiable disease" and they would bring out the army.*
*we don't have an army.

You'll probably need to do a few flea treatments, especially around the house, as it can take months to get rid of them (as there will likely still be eggs lying around). When I worked at a vet practice, we had one woman who kept talking her cat in for flea problems, but he kept getting reinfected in the house!

and anyway what is the actual point of fleas? do they serve a purpose in life other than annoy people and animals?

Ellie’s been diagnosed with a flea allergy and is now on monthly oral meds. Seems to be working; her fur is much better and she’s not over-grooming any more. I also sprayed / washed her usual sleeping places.

My morning started with taking a mouse from Caspar. I have no idea how he manages to catch them, he’s such a big lumbering thing.
