Knowing the number of people involved in support on and off the fells for Paul Tierney's record, I don't think this could be done within current guidance.

I assumed she was using the "elite athlete" get out to feel justified in going ahead with it, but agree that it's not the right time to be attempting this - despite really wanting something exciting that feels like the world is more normal, to follow.

Rosehip - Similar here, it felt to me that she was using the elite athlete clause combined with hoping for less of a circus around the attempt.

Still couldn't really square it in my head though

It's either gone very dark DT or more likely it was pulled last night after some friendly advice from Cumbria Police. Given the position she put Andrew Slattery in I can't see how he couldn't take some action or risk his reputation and career.

Reading the elite athlete criteria it is pretty plain in my view that Sabrina doesn't qualify and even more obvious that the vast majority of her supporters certainly wouldn't. As for hoping for less of a circus I think that was blown the moment the link to the tracker was posted on fb!

I'm really struggling to understand what sort of decision making process thought that in anyway it was even remotely a good idea to go ahead. As Simon pointed out it isn't something that involves an individual or small number of people and can be conducted below the radar. It's a major undertaking involving dozens of people (all sharing transport, handling food and kit etc) spread over nearly a week with a major intention of publically setting a female record and maybe even breaking the overall record. I would have thought that any sensible discussion about going ahead would last no longer than 30 seconds. And it's not as though they tried to confine it to Lakes based people. I had contact with someone last night who is based at least two hours from the Lakes and was asked if he would support her.

The old two runners together witnessing each other’s BGs would be the only challenge attempt I could imagine remotely close to keeping safe in terms of Covid. It might appeal to the kind of runners who have a genuine zero interest in publicity / go out of their way to avoid it. However it would be okay possibly until one got injured and needed help. Now just isn’t the time for racing, record breaking or imho runs of more than a few hours. I can’t see the problem in practical terms with a cheeky bivvy run or walk but it would be outside of the no overnighting guidelines
