Tip for ice cream making - spend big and get a maker with a compressor built in not one that you pre freeze. I've got a cuisinart one.

A definite ambition when I have a big enough kitchen. I have one where you prefreeeze but the freezer’s usually too full of other things.

I have a freezer bowl one for the Kenwood Chef and it's not cold enough. Another tea loaf is in the oven.

I have a freezer bowl for my Kenwood and it works fine - but only inside the really old thick plastic bowl that belonged a 1970s Kenwood, it's rubbish with the metal bowl that came with mine.

Correction: it's initially so cold the mixture freezes on impact and the paddle won't turn, then once it's churned it's very soft. Maybe I should practice... RH, do you have a reliable recipe, please? Resisted fresh cake.

I've failed at the first hurdle then having bought one that you pre-freeze. Ho hum!

I didn't have any brandy to soak the fruit for my fruit cake so I've used Cherry Brandy. It smells so good.
