I certainly did it as a child, and I think for years - used to sit on the floor habitually. It was a shock to realise how much it hurt 2 years ago when I first did Adriene's 30 day journey. I guess it's a reflection of very tight hips. It is easier than it was, but I do use a block.

I've always been uncomfortable in normal chairs for some reason and preferred to get my feet off the ground tucked up under me - used to get told off for 'sitting on my legs'.

Yes, I remember that too, but I think if you don’t keep the habit up it gets harder. One of my team at work is American and says she thinks it’s more common there to keep the habit up after primary school and it’s how she usually sits in an office chair. I hadn’t done it for probably decades before I started doing yoga, and while I’m improving with practice, I find it a strain to keep my body upright with no back support. It isn’t a relaxed posture at all for me. I also need to pad the side of my foot more than the yoga mat provides, but that’s not a problem.

Remember sitting cross legged at primary school, that is!

Didn't tailors sit cross legged traditionally? Sartorius and all that?

I am comfortable sitting crossed legged, but i have open hips, so given others responses that probably explains it. I usually sit crossed legged on chairs/sofas as well - have to constantly remind myself not to if it’d be ‘inappropriate’…

Ah Panad - I suspect we are alike.
In other news we need Bint to come along and defend Day 8. Think we'd all agree she's a serious, high training athlete AND she does daily yoga.

Too true. Bint is my muse
Not sure if it needs defending from me - I said I’d find it difficult but I do loads of things I find difficult, with an eye to improving myself. I find the relaxed sessions a challenge to my patience in general, but that’s precisely why I need them!

Me too actually, Badger. Challenges aren't necessarily just faster, longer, higher etc!
