It was lovely Jenni FF. I did wonder if they had a marathon there.
A mate of mine was on holiday there years ago during an Ironman competition, he bought a leftover finishers t-shirt and enjoyed all the glory from people that night telling him well done!

This month's roundup - my apologies for the delay - partly due to very little free time, I'd run out of ideas of Canadian foods, so something on a slightly different topic!
Saffron – the spice of kings that is the most expensive in the world. Made by drying the stamens of the crocus sativus plant and dyes what it is being cooked in a nice shade of yellow…think of Spanish paella. Each crocus flower has 3 stamens and has to be extracted by hand, making this a labour intensive spice to produce, hence its high price.

Turmeric – highly valued for its medicinal properties in Ayurvedic medicine, whose active constituent, curcumin is anti-inflammatory. It also gives curry powder its characteristic yellow colour.

Ginger – a warming spice, often used to reduce nausea and aid digestion. Candied ginger is good to help laryngitis – one of my singer friends highly recommended it years ago when I was her accompanist. It is often used in Indian and Chinese cookery often with chicken and pork.

Cinnamon – another spice with digestive, anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory properties and one we usually associate with baking, porridge and desserts. There are two main types of cinnamon - Ceylon cinnamon and cassia cinnamon. Ceylon is the more prized of the two and can be difficult to find. Cassia cinnamon is far cheaper and more available.

Thanks Garfield. I love cinnamon and ginger, you've just inspired me to add some to plain porridge for my brekkie instead of having one of those sugary sachet jobs I definitely need the antioxidants
