GG, when I looked at the ascent and decent of my route apparently there were plenty of inclines but I didn't notice any of them except the 2 very small ones I added late on. Well done for your 5 exploratory miles and enjoy the rest of your holiday.

This thread is very busy now which is good. I can't remember so many posters in previous years 😀
Just a recovery 10k jog this morning round the usual hilly road course.

That's right GG, a very friendly, helpful and encouraging forum. Thanks, I needed a very easy pace run this morning, to recover from yesterdays parkrun.
As a matter of interest, I saw a post on the Facebook over 70's runners page regarding "Cadence Lock." Apparently, this is when the Garmin algorithm mixes up the heart rate with the cadence. This is why sometimes the heart rate is higher during an easy pace recovery run, than during a fast one. This is blamed on the watch being too close to the wrist bone, the connections not being clean, the watch not fitted snugly to the wrist. This relates to the optical feature of the watch. The solutions are to check the points raised, or better still, to use a chest strap.

HS I’ve always thought my skinny wrists affected my figures or my arm movements.
I work just as hard on my bike and HR is about 30/40 beats slower. I think it’s because my arms are stable.
I was talking to a nice man at parkrun yesterday on the final push as he was encouraging me to the line yet my HR was allegedly 190 🤣

LL that does sound like your cadence rather than heart rate.

Interesting re HR, cadence and wrist bone. That seems a very valid explanation hs and why you're HR is very high LL! Whatever your heart is doing though you're running fabulously and I'm sure it must be beating far lower than the gadget tells you. I feel secure with my chest strap and currently rely on it which is why you lot (!!) disappear well into a running distance away from me😂

On my bottom-of-the-range Forerunner 45, I find that if the HR is high, then so are the calories, and similarly when the HR is low, then so are the calories. This is not related to Perceived Exertion Rate, or how achy I feel etc. Perhaps I'll try wearing the watch a little tighter. My old Garmin would give me a fairly regular calorie count of about 120/minute.
HS & LL, well done on your parkrun times.. I haven't done one since before Covid, so I really must get back to it.

When I had ECG check at doctors recently my garmin was spot on with their machine (granted I wasn’t exercising) the pulse ox machine when I had my chest infection was reading low around 82x my Garmin said 98. Doc got a different purse ox thing and it matched my garmin.
I only ever use it as a guide but it does seem to be fairly reliable.
