Harrogate Harriers & Athletic Club was formed in April 2000 from the amalgamation of two athletics clubs, Harrogate A.C .and Imperial A.C. Both of these clubs enjoyed a substantial amount of success, including having representatives running at county and national level.
Harrogate A.C. existed for almost 50 years and wore plain black colours. Imperial A.C. started as a breakaway club from Harrogate A.C. and was named after the fruit shop where it met for training sessions - their club vest was apple green! Harrogate Harriers & A.C members wear red, black and gold club colours, aligning with the local RUFC team.
Since 2000, the Club's membership has risen to over 200. Several of the club's members have been asked to represent Yorkshire, while a few have represented England in International fell races and Great Britain in Triathlon events. All that said, in recent years the club's profile has been on the wane, largely due to internal mismanagement, poor administration and an unwelcoming and non-inclusive policy towards newcomers. Membership has fallen and several highly effective and influential members have moved to other clubs.
