I'll dig out one of my old multi-day ones that never used to import because of, I assume, the size.

My Garmin isn't fancy enough to do anything more interesting than just running, at least by design...While you're at it, though, I'll mention an annoying bug that I've seen on a couple of different Garmins in the past, in case you want to detect/handle it: sometimes, in the middle of an activity, the watch will randomly leap forward in time, anything from a few minutes, to days, or even years. Garmin Connect displays the activity as recorded, nonsense and all; the orange site refuses to import it; I'm pretty sure Fetch has, in the past, imported it to the point of the jump, but not beyond. It would be useful if I got a notification to say this but had been detected in an imported activity, so I can decide whether to manually correct it.

I'm sure I could dig out an example file from my archive if you'd like

I am rubbish at chess. I have a chess computer thing I bought from London back when London was a place you went for a weekend. I have a couple of books. I'm going to install Chess with Friends.

I watched the series over the weekend. Learnt chess when I was 12, broke my leg at start of secondary school so it was one of the things I did when I couldn't move around much. Played on and off every so often since then but not really consistently. Openings was always something I struggled with probably because it seems the different lines are just memorised rather than 'seen', was ok in middle game and end game at the level I played anyway. Played a few games at the beginning of lockdown 1 online, won more than I lost.

I've often wished I was good at Chess. And Queen's Gambit was good.

I used to play a lot but was totally erratic..much like my school work. You have made me think of backgammon.

@SPR - those are all things I've heard of, but never quite sure when one thing becomes the next.

I wish I was good at chess, but I'm not. It does fascinate me though. Back in the early 1990s I can remember watching a live world championship move by move on Ceefax!! Might have been Kasparov vs Karpov?

@Fetch - I'm no expert on them but the lines between them are blurred. I just know it's easy to make a silly mistake in the first 10-20 moves.

It's definitely easier to see what to do if you can get to a point where there are fewer pieces on the board in good shape.

Would be great to be able to see myriad possibilities in advance and the appropriate responses like the grandmasters but they put in so much work.

I've tried to learn standard openings and defences a couple of times but they just won't stick, I think this probably means I'm not very good!

It's a great musical, Anthem and Nobody's Side are really good.

T9's school chess club stopped in March, obvs. I wonder how much he remembers.

Oooh, I was rather good as a kid and then discovered bridge, which seemed a whole lot more fun. I still watch the big matches online for entertainment though, and let out a stifled yelp at work when Carlsen beat Anand in 2013 (I was listening/watching with headphones)

I know how the pieces move in chess but am shit at the strategy bit. My youngest has been learning how to play at school and asked me for a game last week. I wasn't trying to win, just using blocking moves to keep him guessing. I think he was trying to overthink things and ended up getting himself into checkmate without any help from me!

I was taught it at primary and expected to be good but I wasn't so then had all the fun sucked out. I couldn't do the end game at all

Ha - I was excellent at 14, but life intervened, and was never able to recapture that buzz (I started young 7 or 8, and kept on improving). Was moving through the ranks of my chess club at the time. It pains me playing now, knowing that my 14 year old self would have thrashed me.

I am the only person in the history of the Knox Academy Chess League to play himself and lose. Of course, that means I won as well, but it was only the loss that was recorded. In three years of play, once a week every week of term I recorded a nearly perfect losing record. I won one game, once, against Stephen Gordon who was so embarrassed he didn't come back for three weeks.

Anyone interested in improving their game might want to look at Chess Improvement by Barry Hymer and Peter Wells. It has a foreword by Henrik Carlsen. Buy it in a bookshop and I might get a couple of pennies.

Excellent! I played on chess.com about 5 years ago for a bit, didn't really know what I was doing and then got bored, took it up again in March this year when the world closed down and I've really enjoyed actually trying to 'learn' it this time!

None of my friends were interested so I've not really been able to talk about it all this time but glad there's something popular on telly now that might get some more people playing!

The 'Chessable' app is a great one for learning, but check out some YouTubers like John Bartholomew, who'll tell you everything you need to know while being the nicest guy in the world.

I’m playing the computer still. Only won one game so far but I’m getting better, I think. Problem is I don’t really understand how or why.

I'm one of the wizened old boys who's played for years, and who formed most of the membership of over the board clubs. These are now all mothballed because of the pandemic, so some of these players are playing online. Also with a lot of new players coming on board because of being locked up at home there's a lot more interest now which I'm pleased to see. It seems like the Queen's gambit has helped too though I haven't seen it yet.

...and going through the comments above I agree with Salty Dog John Bartholemew is excellent on youtube - check out his climbing the ladder series.

I've just noticed a bug - some of my benchmark times aren't quite right - I'll sort that ASAP.

Good news - I'm in Division 4 after the reshuffle, six divisions higher than I have ever been. Bad news - I'm in the relegation zone already! Going down ...

Blimey, I've shot up to Division 12. I doubt I'll be there for long. Are there badges for going down as well as up?

Funnily enough, I was only looking at UTMOST earlier on. I was 4th in Division 12, having risen from the top of 15/bottom of 14 at the end of 2019, having secured actual race PB's over 5 miles and HM this year, plus I've done two actual 10ks (in Jan & Mar).

I'm now 4th in Division 10! Woohoo!

The divisions might jump around again a bit, when I suss the bug.

Today, I've dropped one division .

My times for distances above 10 miles seem to be missing - don't know if that affects anybody else. Perhaps it's because I haven't tried running quickly any further?

Thank you, I've rejoined! Does it only use benchmarks if you haven't got any race times that include the distance? I ran-walked a marathon on 4th Oct so it's logged as a race. However I've run half marathon distance in training faster than the pace I 'ran' my marathon. Yet because I've not done a HM race in the last year, it's taking my marathon 'race' pace and converting it to half marathon and all other distances down to 5 miles, as I've only raced 1m, 5k and mara in the last year. Ta x

One thing I've thought about before is making it so everyone is opted in by default, but with notifications turned off. My thinking is that it's as much like "standards" as a game, and you don't opt into that.

And I've just checked. A bit like Synge, I'm in a much higher division than ever before (6th in my case) but in the relegation zone. In fact it's worse than that, I'm bottom!

I miss using UTMOST to decide which races to enter based on what distance I thought I might improve my time on.

Where are the benchmarks drawn from? I am sure I have run a faster mile than that at some point this year? Plus the 10k is slower than the 10k race time I do actually have?

Apologies to everyone who got excited - I've fixed the bug, and rebuilt the divisions. With an influx of new players, you might not be in the starting point you hoped for - but the only way is up.

You had me at badges. I'm a regular and pretty sure I was in Div 5 before (so no change). The virtual events have helped a bit I guess

Now down to 16th in Div 13, but the numbers are correct. That's fine, I know my place

I've dropped 2 divisions in the reshuffle but times look right for me.

The change might stop me from just plodding on my runs.

I’ve jumped up to Div 3 from about 12. I don’t really race so was quite low down

the div 3 leader has run a 12:53 5k. I thought Mo was locked in the jungle (Wales). I fear this approach may rely heavily on folks to upload sensible training data.

I see that the 4th placed individual in div 2 has a real issue with converting short distance pace to the longer distances. 9:23 5k -> 5hr+ Mara. Some longer runs should help them with the conversion to the ~1:45 mara.

WW - I am working on how to resolve that. I was thinking maybe a 'report this score' button which, if it was clicked by enough members of the division, would trigger an automated message to the owner to tidy up their data. It could also feasibly freeze their division until resolved - and if no resolution came about, they'd get ejected from the game. Something like that

thanks Ian, sounds like a good idea although I think I might find it hard to go back and find the erroneous training data. I've seen other sites link back to the dodgy data source for the user to correct. Sorry, I shouldn't have poked fun, it's only a game after all and nobody takes these FE games seriously now, do they? Hey, if we can't poke fun, what's the point? I reckon I can provide the info to help the users track down the bad data - or if not, I can probably source an inexpensive cattle prod from eBay to ensure compliance

JW - at the moment it's purely times, so for any of us who are not in their WAVA prime, it'll be about seeing how high up the divisions we can get.

The page & notification works for me Ian ... but what does the 'favoured routes' graphic show? Looks like a silhouette trace of runs from home - but I suspect I've done a lot more runs 'down the road' in the New Forest.

Yep - that works. Very clearly shows when we were shielding and when I put my back out.

The 'Favoured Routes' thing is just a heat map to show where you've run within a 2-3 mile radius of your main Fetch location. I've been looking through the ones that you've all generated, and there are some very busy looking ones, and others less so. If you don't run from your main Fetch location, it'll look a bit quiet.

No - although the map view of your training log does this to some degree with the circles.

I think the weeks looked better as months (and may give you more room?), weeks feels data feels like overkill for infographic possible. The days per week might be more useful as a summary table of number of weeks of 1 day, 2 days, etc (and again give you more room to spread stuff out).

I'd drop the routes thing (another way to get more space).

The yellow writing under the race listings, ie "Events, Distances, Best WAVA" is not readable,ie too small, in some cases. For 2020 where I've only raced twice it's great, and Sigh's example above with 5 races is fine as well, but my 2018 also has 5 entries and the font size is a lot smaller than in Sigh's and I can't read it, even on the full size link fetcheveryone.com/infographics/annual/7f78f3e51eb88e961bcf52d2443da2f1.png

The Graph for the annual target looks wrong to me.
I've run 862 Km with a target of 1000Km. So, I'm not there yet and haven't actually caught up with the diagonal line on the normal Targets screen.
The graph in the infographic suggests I've beasted it and blew it away half way through the year.

but others say more, so Garmin says 34,183

Philip - ascent is calculated when you view an activity - so if there are some you have not viewed, they would contribute to the total.

Minor thing; not sure if you're expecting a time delay between new runs logged and the infographic picking them up, but my run from 12 isn't being picked up when I clear the data & refresh it, 2+ hours later. Might be a bug.

The old and new graphic share the same URL, so it's possible that your browser has cached the old image. Try a hard refresh (CTRL+F5 on PC, Cmd+R on Mac, double tap the refresh button on iPhone, and [not sure] on Android).

WS - you can already choose cycling and swimming. Walking is still part of X-training, so is a bit flaky. Will definitely aim to include race results somehow.

Cool, I love these graphics. By comparing ours I can see that you have run 237 more miles than me so far this year, yet I have completed over 7000 metres more than you in ascent. I guess that also means I've done a similar amount more going down.

The "mark unread" isn't actually useful yet - there's no visible trigger for the reader to be reminded that they want to come back to it later (you'd have to remember to visit the blogs page and check green ticks, which I don't think is how most people manage their blog reading. Plus it's only there for a couple of days before it drops off the bottom).
